Two papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals about or related to this project.
Paredes, E., Hernandez, E., Herrera, A., & Tonyan, H.A. (2018). Putting the “family” in family child care: The alignment between familismo (familism) and family child care providers’ descriptions of their work. Early Childhood Research Quarterly. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecresq.2018.04.007
This paper describes the ideals of Love and Affection reflected in many providers' descriptions of their work. This paper is, unfortunately, behind a pay wall, so readers must pay to access it or access it through the CSUN library.
Mimura, Y., Cai, Y., Tonyan, H., & Koonce, J. (online preprint). Resource well-being among family child care business owners. Journal of Family and Economic Issues. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10834-019-09620-8
This paper was based on a project completed before the Are You In project, but is still quite relevant to people interested in Are You In. It was a collaboration with faculty in Family and Consumer Sciences (Yoko Mimura and Yi 'Tom' Cai) and is available to view online (no cost to view). In the paper, we explore ways to broaden our understanding of "resources" in family child care in ways that better reflect the reality of family child care providers' economic situations.
