Researchers Find Similarities in Ireland!

12/20/2021

It's been a long time since I've posted.  The project funding ended, and life's been very busy sending project staff in all sorts of life directions!  But a recent event that is now available for the public leads me, the Principal Investigator from the "Are You In?" project, to post now.

Did you know that what we call "family child care" in the USA is called "childminding" in Ireland? Across a large number of countries, people offer child care with varying levels of regulatory support, and a recent webinar that was organized for Irish childminders included me for a discussion about the role of childminding in Ireland's Early Care and Education landscape.  I was pleased to participate along with Miriam O'Regan in a webinar hosted by Prof. Nóirín Hayes, of the Researching Early Childhood Education Collaborative (RECEC) at the School of Education at Trinity College of Dublin and Bernadette Orbinski Burke, the CEO of  Childminding Ireland which is the professional association for childminders there.  If you'd like to know more about the webinar, check out the web page describing it that includes a video.

The Childminding Difference webinar was well-attended on Tuesday, November 16 and can now be viewed via YouTube.

I am the Principal Investigator for this project.  I am a mother of two,  I teach about developmental science, and I have been researching child care since I was an undergraduate at Carleton College in 1994.  Before my children entered school, they were cared for in a wonderful family child care home.  One of my passions is working toward a world where all children have safe, loving, learning spaces at home and in the community.
